November 17, 1942 ~ July 21, 2026
G. Thomas Lord, 83, of Irwin, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, PA.
He was born November 17, 1942 in Sewickley Twp., PA. Son of the late Thomas and Charlotte (Hower) Lord.
Tom was a graduate of the former Sewickley Township High School Class of 1961. He was a very proud Sewickley Bison and was very active in planning and attending reunions and lunches and keeping the classmates together. Tom went on to serve in the U.S. Army. He was stationed as an MP in Hampton Roads, VA. He was member of The Church in Sutersville and a former member of the Appalachian Wagon Train. Tom was a very proud lifelong farmer; raising cows and growing crops. He was born and raised on the family farm that he resided at all his life. Tom was a farm boy through and through. He worked as an independent truck driver for many years. Folks on the CB knew him as “Hayseed”. Tom was a former school bus driver for Yough, and he took genuine joy in the children he transported each day and kept meaningful connections with many of the kids through life. He enjoyed listening to old country and oldies music, helping his wife, Sandy, with the vegetable garden, and loved taking trips to the PA Farm Show with fellow farmer and close friend, Sonny. His tractors were always red, never green. While dating, Sandy would sit on the fender of his IH Farmall 300 while he worked the fields all day.
He is preceded in death by both parents and brother, Robert Eugene Lord.
He is survived by loving wife of 56 years, Sandra Lee (Shellgren) Lord of Irwin; daughter, Laura (Stan) Broome of Alpharetta, GA; son, George (Rachael) Lord of Tucson, AZ; 3 grandchildren; sister, Donna (Polly Minnick) Lord of Rehoboth Beach, DE and beloved dog and companion, Lucy.
Friends will be received from 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm on Friday, July 24, 2026 at the Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc. Rt 136 Madison, PA – Ronald A. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the funeral home with Pastor Frank Rocco officiating. Interment will follow at the Mars Hill Cemetery in Herminie.
