George "Ed" Ammerman, 84, of Williamsport went to be with the Lord Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at his home. Born April 20, 1929 in Fallentimber, he was a son of George R. and Vera (Rice) Ammerman. He married his beloved wife of 59 years, Alice, on Nov. 12, 1954.

George was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was in the Korean War, a part of the 25th Infantry Division, where his honors included two purple hearts and two bronze stars. He retired from Stroehmann Bakery in 1975 after many years of service. George attended Community Baptist Church; and The Church of Sutersville, when he was in town. He was a life member of the DAV and VFW, Duboistown and was a past Commander of the DAV. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, riding horses, reading, cowboy movies, Bible word searches, music, singing, traveling and Snoopy. He loved children and would spend time passing out teddy bears to kids he would meet. George loved God and family. Heaven has reclaimed an angel, one of the kindest gentlemen that blessed not only his family's lives, but made an impression on everyone who knew him.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Karen (Gary) Mitcheltree of Morris, Linda (Richard) Benjamin of Middletown, Edward (Susan) Ammerman of Montoursville and Brian (Christina) Ammerman of Haymarket, Va.; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Anna Marie; four brothers; and one sister.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Community Baptist Church, 1853 State Route 87, Montoursville. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Woolrich. A viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in George's name may be made to Community Baptist Church, 1853 State Route 87, Montoursville, Pa. 17754. www.SandersMortuary.com.
